Quentin Richardson – SuperSnail
I was born in Africa in the age of the Mau Mau and beatnik and have since lived on 4 continents and 9 countries. Having drawn and sketched all through my childhood, it seemed only natural, to me, that eventually I would work in the arts, much to the chagrin of my parents who hoped for a professional career. I call myself SuperSnail because I sign my work with the stylised QR seen to the left and that looks a little like a snail.
Having finished secondary and tertiary education in the UK I headed for Australia where I continued with photographic studies.
In 1983 I returned to the UK and shortly after joined a trompe l’ œil studio in the south of England. Painting the length and breadth of Britain I executed paint finishes, murals, and faux finishes for private clients as well as commissions for prestigious interior designers and architects.
1990 I moved to Eire and continued there in the same field but also adding graphics, stage design and sculpture to my portfolio as well as two children to my life. The stage and play-set design and won me acclaim and numerous awards for my unusual approach to set painting.
1999 saw me back at college in the UK for a year where I picked up Government recognised and approved NVQ qualifications in Information Technology and Computer studies. Typically these qualifications have since been changed for an inferior version called, stupidly enough, the European Computer Driving Licence (where does “driving” come into it?) and I find the certificates I already hold are worthless in the job market place. Lending credence to the adage “it’s not WHAT you know but WHO you know.”
I now live and work in southern Spain where I continue to produce unusual art works, decoration and murals, print and web graphics, providing packaging designs, layout and political commentary for the age of consumerism.
The world has changed so much that skills have to remain flexible. I use my Apple/Mac to create websites and graphics for the digital age. In many ways computers fit with my ethos – I no longer need to rely on the lumber industry for paper.
I tend to be mightily mistrustful of those that claim to represent us when I see governments kow-towing to huge mult-national corporations, taking backhanders to pass bills and law. Individuals getting directorships on the boards of big enterprise for services rendered.
I don’t do TV either. To me it is simply spoon feeding the masses with garbage and programming and a means to keep them quiet. I believe that people with little or no imagination rely on TV to fill the void of creative, inquisitiveness. Our forebears would be aghast. It kills conversation and encourages us to live in a bubble of mundane trivialities. “Oh but I only watch the news.” The news IS the programming – rich men with corporations whose remit is to make a profit selling news. It is biased – it has to be. And in the UK there is the D notice which most have heard of and blithely assure us that “it must be to do with national security”. It’s censorship – nothing more. A rose by any other name smells as sweet. In this case the rose isn’t a rose it’s a turd. And I won’t start on what the USA government keeps from the people that it has sworn to serve. Suffice it to say that WAR IS GOOD FOR BUSINESS.

I loathe with a passion the likes of Monsanto who seem to think that they can patent Mother Earth for their own greed and profit with their unproven transgenic technology, and ultimately to control us. I heard some Monsanto robot saying that their products are substantively the same as the natural version. Well we humans a re substantively the same as chimpanzees – but we aren’t chimpanzees. Smoke and mirrors folks. Unfortunately I also see organised religions in much the same light.
Then there are the august bodies like the FDA in America – these morons were trying to tell the population that you couldn’t guarantee the quality of food grown in your own garden and were seriously trying to ban it. Naturally we’d all be better off eating food crammed full of preservatives, antioxidants false colours and made with untested Monsanto created transgenic GMOs. Did you know that pizza in the US is now officially a vegetable?

Meanwhile in Europe we have scum trying to tell us that we can’t rely on herbal medicine “because it hasn’t been tested”. Like 20,000 years of herbal medicine isn’t enough. Naturally this scum is associated, trained and bribed by BigPharma who want us to take their noxious cocktails of chemicals. Remember thalidomide? And we have the EFSA – European Food Safety Authority, another bunch of scumbags taking money for BigFood this time.

In the words of one of my favourite musicians, Frank Zappa:
Our god says “This is the way” It says in the book, “Burn and destroy”
And repent and redeem and revenge and deploy and rumble thee forth to the land of the unbelieving scum on the other side.
‘Cause they don’t go for what’s in the book and that makes ’em bad.
So verily we must choppeth them up and stompeth them down, or rent a nice French bomb to poof them out of existence while leaving their real estate just where we need it to use again for temples in which to praise our god, ’cause he can really take care of business
The meek shall inherit nothing.
I also tend toward the sayings of Jiddu Krishnamurthi:
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.
Religions divide – spirituality unites.
It’s time to awaken folk – see what is really going on. Take back the control from those that lie and tell you it’s for your own good.
Spread the love.
